Went to Barrel & Co for dinner and loved the cosy, hearty vibes — it felt like a proper home-cooked meal.We had the cauliflower soup (so good!), the eye fillet steak, and the rump steak — all cooked beautifully and really satisfying.Only downside was a disrespectful couple nearby watching car racing on their phone at max volume — definitely not the restaurant’s fault, just unfortunate!Would happily go back again
Barrel and Co was an unexpected surprise! We usually go to Eat Streat when we stay in Rotorua but decided to dine in house tonight at the restaurant. Food and service were both exceptional and great atmosphere. I will definitely be back to dine again.

We had a First Table booking for dinner here. The wait staff are truly lovely and as helpful as they can be. The thing with First Table is that you always have to order a drink however they said no tea, coffee or water counts towards this criteria. As a couple who do not drink alcohol we felt pressured to purchasing something. I usually will buy a litre bottle of Antipodes sparkling water as that's about the same price as a beer. The waitress said she'd ask the manager and came back to ask if we'd consider one of their $20 mocktails. Neither of us into sugary drinks either. One watermelon mocktail was ordered and deemed incredibly sweet. Anyway. Food - entrees pork belly and prawns - absolutely beautiful and highly recommended. Somewhere we'd seen this place advertised as a 'grill' or 'steakhouse' and so opted for the 250g scotch fillets to be cooked medium rare. Good things about the mains - beautifully presented on warm plates. The steak was well over and not great to eat. It was tough and chewy in parts. However it did taste delicious. Quite disappointing. This steak meal is $58 and even paying half that was not worth it. Not sure I'll be heading back anytime soon. There seemed to be a buffet on offer so that might be worth checking out in future. Top notch attentive service. Mains let the evening down sadly.
